It started snowing around three this afternoon, about five hours ago. All roads in Greenbrier County are closed, as are all roads in Tazewell County. Here in my little corner of WV, five school buses of kids didn't make it home and they took them to Beaver Vol. Fire Dept to wait out the snow.
So far we have power, thank gods, but damn do I feel for the parents and kids having to wait out the storm. There are still kids on the roads down in Mercer County trying to get home too. Damn. It's been quite a while since we've had a snow this bad. I went out to my porch and measured the snow, eight inches of it so far and it's supposed to keep snowing all day tomorrow.
I hope all those kids make it home safely. Keep warm folks.

Update folks. It's 11:30 and people are trapped in their cars on I-77 between Beckley and Ghent. Road crews are focusing on that area, digging people out and getting them home. Rt. 19 between Beckley and Oak Hill is pretty much snow covered and that's a main highway for our area. I'm hearing tales of tractor trailers jack knifing in a couple of places which is making the interstate roads even more hazardous. The two main roads through Beckley are pretty much snow covered too, so I'm really not holding my breath on seeing the snow plow until Sunday.
As for me, I keep on trying to shovel off my porch. I get a little bit done, go sit for a minute and go back and find another inch or two of snow has fallen. Yeah, this snow is really nasty.
If anyone needs road info, I've got numbers to call for Virgina and West Virgina.

You all remember the guy who got stuck in the mud, that turned out to have bought three acres and a tiny, run down shack that he's calling a hunting lodge [for God's sake!]. I know you do.
Well, he brought down two dogs. OMG! Pitbull mixes. One with some sort of terrier and the other Chow!! Fuck me sideways. Who in their right mind wants a psycho mixed with a hyperactive? Anything.
So, here he is, in a county with an ordinance against this kind of dog with two of them. Ack! Chow's are notoriously unreliable so he's got one hyperactive psycho and another that's huge, unreliable and insane.
What does he do? He turns them off leash, in cattle country. God, what a mess. They chased the horses at one place and the cattle at another. They killed a goat and a calf.
The sheriff has been a personal friend for years so he came to us and asked if we'd see what we could do. So I spent most of the day on my ATV, waiting for dogs. Ya, dogs. Mr. Mud [I still don't know his real name] Shows up and tells me I can't shoot his dogs. so, I told him that I could, I would and him too if he got in the way. Then I explained to him that his dogs were considered a menace to livestock and life. And that he wasn't allowed to let them run at large. Only hunting dogs are allowed at large in this county.
So, they came home but didn't stay long. They ran around the house, chased him inside and took off. I finally ran them to ground, along with the other neighbor who's horses they terriorized.
So it wasn't a very good day. I'm cold, pissed, and tired. So...how was your day. *grumbles*

First snowstorm of the year starting tonight. YAY. Not. I like snow at Christmas as much as anyone but over a foot all at once? So not funny, Mother Nature. Not funny at all.

This is one of those silly things that people have.
I worked in a Greek restaurant years ago. The pastry chef was a really nice man and would let me help do stuff. I did dirty icing and string pipping on things like baklava. {the little chocolate strips on them} But I was never allowed to do more than cover a layer with the fondant.
So... I've always wanted to do a really big cake all by myself. Um... yeah. who's going to eat this thing? No idea. That's why I'll probably never get to do one.

I've been informed that not only is it unusally cold in parts of Florida, but they were expecting snow last night in Southern California. So yeah, except for Hawaii, the entire US is freaking cold. It starts snowing in Honolulu though, and I reserve the right to freak out about the next ice age starting.
